Alvin DC206 Synchro-Tilt Painters Stool : Mega Drawing stool

As a programmer with stand-up desks, i find this chair a great help. The perch position helps for lower back problems.

The chair is perfect painting.

I’ve been wanting this for a few years but was nervous to purchase. Now i’m kicking myself for not buying it sooner. It’s great for painting or tasks where you need to be more mobile.

Purchased this as a gift for my girlfriend for christmas. She’s an artist and she loves it. She spends multiple hours a day sitting in it and it suits her needs very well. She got a new drafting table for christmas and this is an excellent match.

  • Worth the price – great features and very comfortable
  • Just what I needed.
  • Great for a workspace

Alvin DC206 Synchro-Tilt Painters Stool

  • Comfortable.
  • Rugged.
  • Height and tilt can both be easily adjusted.
  • Set of non-slip floor glides.
  • Black.

I am somewhat disappointed in this stool. I personally would like a larger top surface to sit on, and a large back support. The basic structure is study but i find i shy away from using it because i feel a little shaky sitting on it. It rocks back into a position which is good for your back and i will have to see how that plays out in the long run. I think it is highly over priced for what it is. Were it half the price, i might feel more flexible in my having bought it. Meanwhile, i hope it ends up proving to be better than what i have experienced so far.

It’s a really nice stool and i rated it 5 stars but one issue found after opening the package. The plastic bushing which holds the hieght adjustment lever in place was broken. I easily fixed it with super glue so not harm done. Very sturdy and love how it adjusts so you can stand or sit depending on what your doing. Great stool for painting with a french sketch box.

I like to stand or prop myself on a tall stool while doing my watercolor painting. At my art class i have the high stools i need, but at home my “office” chairs was too low and other wooden stools i had were too high. The net/net was i started my work seated, but found myself standing within a few minutes and continued to work that way for hours. I’d often want to continue painting but my back was screaming “no more”.This chair has lots of height and tilt adjustment. No more pain while i’m painting.

Have had some back problems and my pt recommended that i work at a standing desk instead of sitting in a chair at a desk. However standing writing reports sometimes for an hour at a time can be very fatiguing so i wanted something that would allow me to maintain good posture and provide me with opportunities to sit if needed at a standing desk. It easily adjusts from a chair height to a standing height ( i am 5′ 2″). This chair is perfect for standing or sitting and is reasonably priced, easy to put together and seems sturdy. Everyone that looks at my chair has to try it out and are amazed that it is actually comfortable. Highly recommend this chair.

The lift simply doesn’t work, so i won’t be able to use it as i planned. However, it is a good sturdy seat and i’ll be able to use it for other purposes.

This is a great chair for me as i have problems standing for any lenght of time. And as i am a quilter and have to cut out fabric this chair works great at my cutting table. I also use it in the kitchen when cutting up vegetable or cooking that requires me to stand. It is higher than a regular chair to start with, about the height of a bar stool and adjusts higher. I had a hard time finding a high stool that had wheels and this one fits the bill.

I use this at my stand up desk at work. It goes nice and high and the seat tilts a little so i can get some of my butt on it without really sitting. I have no complaints and it is built well. This was a bargain at the price i paid.

This is a perfect perch to have by my easel. A little assembly is required but it is minimal, once together it is very sturdy.

Well i having sat on for long periods, so far, so good. Easy to adjust, lets you get it at the right height.

This chair is really easy to put together, and if you are standing most of the time and just using it to lean on occasionally it might be ok. But the seat is hard and if you are leaning you would use the flat inserts where the wheels go to prevent rolling, which is what i did. The base of the chair simply sits inside the wheel base so when you pick the chair up to move it, the base falls off. So i got tired of putting the base back on since i didn’t use the wheels it was the only way to move the chair. I returned it and they were nice about it and i have nothing bad to say about the whole experience. So if you don’t use it that way, it would be a fine chair.

This stool was easy to assemble (10 minutes), and comes with an option of putting feet instead of rollers on it. Also, the rollers can each be locked to temporarily prevent rolling. The stool is comfortable and raises/lowers easily. Plus it’s great for good posture.

This chair is for one thing and one thing only. When i sit in this chair things get done. Not the most comfortable but like i said it helps me get the job done. In stores it’s almost double.

Good for posture but seat is a bit hard.

I definitely like this chair. I can sit on it or simply use it for some support while standing. Another feature that was an unexpected surprise – you get two options for how mobile the stool is. You can choose wheels or no wheels. The wheels have a locking mechanism if you want to temporarily immobilize it. One of issues i have had with my drafting chair is that if i lean forward over my work, the chair would drift back away from the table. The stool doesn’t move unless i want it to. I am also very overweight and this stool handles my weight without any issues. There are very few stools that will support 300 lbs. I admit that my weight might, over time, ‘kill’ the hydraulics but for now i am extremely happy with stool.

Totally what i was looking for and super easy to put together. I was surprised how high the hydraulics went. I wanted something higher than the office chair i was using for my craft projects and this fit the bill. Maybe an inch shorter would’ve been nice but it’s a great upgrade to what i had.

Often in the past, when painting, i needed to give my aching feet& legs a break. But if i went to sit down it just broke the connection i had with the canvass. This stool is a marvelous acquisition to my studio. Now i can give my body the relief from the start and not sever that strange link between canvass and artist. That is the esoteric experience i enjoy when painting (it is, i would hazard to guess. ) regardless, this stool gives me the escape from painful standing (i have a neuromuscular disease).

I attached a pad to the seat with velcro much better now. Wish it had a greater seat height adjustment and more angle to the seat. The wheel locks are in the way find myself inadvertently stepping on them and locking the wheels.

What ever all the instruments are and extra. You’re getting your money’s worth. With this chair, i get a lift.

I didn’t know what to expect from a warehoused product, but this stool came without a scratch on it. It was missing two bolts/screws, which i easily found in my own stash of odds & ends hardware. Even if i had to get from the hardware store, the deep discount was very worth it. The stool itself is comfortable for half or full sitting at my easel. I chose to use the casters, instead of the stationary pads. Since they are locking, i don’t anticipate any problems. So far i haven’t locked, and the stool is balanced enough not to slide away from me.

  5. 2.0 out of 5 stars Fragile Plastic Part

This review is from : Alvin DC206 Synchro-Tilt Painters Stool

Overall, this chair feels sturdy and is easy to assemble, however, the control lever is held in place by a piece of plastic that arrived broken, making it inoperable. I was hesitant to replace it with the same model, so i returned it and purchased a different brand instead.

    • 5.0 out of 5 stars excellent and not what people expect
Purchased this item through dick blick for fabric design and cutting purposes. This is not a “sit back and rest while you think” type stool. The stool is desinged to rock you forward onto your sitz bones into an alert upright position and leaves your arms and shoulders as free and mobile as though you were standing. I have mine set quite high as i go back and forth between standing and sitting as the mood strikes, but the sitting is always with an an erect back. I find it an excellent design. (one minor annoyance was frequently and accidentally setting the caster brakes with my feet; to fix it i simply cut the brake tabs off).

  10. 2.0 out of 5 stars Arrived broken - no box damage

This review is from : Alvin DC206 Synchro-Tilt Painters Stool

I was really looking forward to this item. It arrived on day later than promised and i am a prime customer. The box looked great, strapping all around, tape and box secure–no damage visible. I opened the box and began assembly. When i finished assembly i notice the lift lever would not stay in place and upon further examination saw that there was a plastic part on the seat plate that appeared broken. I checked the box and inside it in the bubble wrap the seat plate had been packaged in i found two pieces of the broken part. I tried to contact alvin both directly and through the seller, hyatt’s. Hyatt’s was very kind and gracious but they had no more success with getting me a part and wanted to charge me $20. 00 plus shipping to get the whole seat plate. The small plastic part is not available.

It is solidly made but i think the back aloud be a little higher to better support the lower back.

  12. 5.0 out of 5 stars Great for a workspace

This review is from : Alvin DC206 Synchro-Tilt Painters Stool

I recently decided to move to a standing desk setup at work, in attempts to be less sedentary in my workspace. I think this should be made more clear in the product description, because i sure missed it: this product comes with non-rolling casters as well. I was pleasantly surprised, because i had intended to use this at a very tall height to be more of a lean-to instead of a stool or backless chair. The lumbar leaflet at the top of the chair does improve the comfort in my opinion and its an all around good little break for the knees while still being tall enough to use my standing desk comfortably. You can’t go wrong with this stool for a workshop or standing desk setup.

    • 2.0 out of 5 stars Constantly tripping over the legs
This is not a very comfortable chair. The seat is quit hard, but that is not my main complaint. The legs stick out so far that i’m constantly tripping over them. This usually results in accidentally locking the wheels because the locking tabs stick out from the rollers.

I hesitated to pay this much money when i could probably get a stool at a used furniture shop but it was worth the price. Comfortable adjustable seat, and easy height control. I can now move me instaed of trying to figure out which gymnastic position i will need and how to maintain it. Super addition to my studio.

  15. 2.0 out of 5 stars Not as comfortable as I thought it would be

This review is from : Alvin DC206 Synchro-Tilt Painters Stool

I recently switched to a standing desk. I bought this for the times when i wanted to be in the standing position, but take the pressure off my legs. However, it just isn’t very comfortable. The seat does not tilt forward as much as i thought it would. There is no cushion on the seat; it’s very hard, and the seat pad itself gets very uncomfortable after a while. If it were like a bicycle style seat, it might be more of what i’m looking for. I’ve also had a lot of trouble finding the right height for me. I’m 5’10” tall and have a small to medium build so pretty average sized guy. The back rest might as well not even be there. I can’t tell that it does anything for me.

  16. 3.0 out of 5 stars would definitely qualify for a 5 if the forward tilt worked

This review is from : Alvin DC206 Synchro-Tilt Painters Stool

Everything about this assembling stool was unbelievably easy (it did stink a bit in the room. Maybe the gas/grease)i cant believe they would advertize a non-existent product feature (forward tilt)all in all, since there is no other stool like this anywhere in the market, had to settle for this. Btw, the parts fit clumsily in each other, so there is the possibility of everything falling apart if you tilt. It is kinda painful sitting on it, but i dont have a choice since there are no other standing chairs. Beats using my barstool on a tilt. I only installed the floor glides since i didnt want to move around while working. And contrary to the belief that this would help posture, it really doesnt because of the lack of forward tilt (which was the very reason i was interested in this).

  18. 2.0 out of 5 stars Little forward title and a fairly hard sitting surface

This review is from : Alvin DC206 Synchro-Tilt Painters Stool

This stool’s seat does tilt forward, but only very slightly–from some angles you might think it’s actually only tilting backward due to the concave seat top. The surface of the seat is quite hard (reminiscent of the heavy rubber mats used in resteraunt kitchens) and has a pronounced lip on the forward edge. This means, for me, the chair must lowered to position where my knees are just about even with my hips to keep the lip from cutting off some or all of the circulation my legs. It also means i have to be conscious about how i rest or sit on it, since unconsciouly backing on to it while in though always results in the lip digging deep in one hamstring or the other and a completely dead leg when i want to stand again. I’m 6’0″ and 190lbs with “average” joint proportions and once the seat is more than 2-3″ above its minimum height, the lip will begin to cut. Two stars because i can think of ways it could be worse, though i’ve not actually encountered those in any other chair, no matter how cheap.

      • 2.0 out of 5 stars Hard as a rock- not for office use, and maybe not for a painter either
I bought this as a cheaper “starter” to try out the concept before buying a saddle chair. Verdict: not for office use. The seat is as hard as a rock. Truthfully, i don’t know how a painter could stand it either. I suppose you could rig up some sort of foam cushion for the seat or something, but otherwise, you’re going to have one sore tushy. Also note, you’re unlikely to be happy with it if you’re less than 5’5″ tall. I’ll keep this short, but some of the other low-star reviews have valuable additional details and merit reading before purchase.

    • 2.0 out of 5 stars For office use: not recommended. Extremely uncomfortable
I bought this primarily on the basis of positive reviews here, and i regret it. I’m delighted to see that it works for other people’s use cases, but wanted to share my different experience. What i wanted was an armless stool that i could use to sit higher at my home desk while i do computer work. My regular office chair is too low for me to type comfortably and i develop arm pain when using it. (the top of my desk is 29″ from the floor, with standard keyboard on top, and my regular chair seat is about 21″ from the floor. ) this stool fits the bill on that: at the lowest point with casters, it is 23. 5″ from the floor (and raises to 33″). The good things about it are: (1) sturdy heft and solid feel. (2) large range of height adjustment from 23. 0″ from the floor with the casters (which amazon does not list as of this review time). My back hurts after using it. I simply cannot find an adjustment point that is comfortable. The seat is pretty hard (like sitting on tire material) and relatively small.

  20. 1.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected
I was looking for a stool i could lean on as i stand a lot during the day, but this was a stool i could only sit on. I couldn’t get it to tilt forward at all. And the seat is very uncomfortable. I sat on it for about 10 minutes and couldn’t take it any more. Thankfully amazon has a great return policy and the return shipping was reasonable (under 20 dollars).

This review is from : Alvin DC206 Synchro-Tilt Painters Stool

I put it together in less than 15 minutes and loved the optional glider or caster feet. I’ve only been sitting on it for about an hour but it’s great so far. I’ll update again after i’ve used it a few days. Update: 2/27i’ve used it many hours a day for many days now and i love it. It’s very comfortable, most of my sciatic and back problems have dissipated and thankfully there wasn’t too much muscle tiredness from adjusting my posture. My only complaint is that you must really tighten the tilt knob if you don’t want it tilting back and forth on you. Update 8/27today i noticed a split in the seat cushion and i haven’t use this chair much. I put out my back and couldn’t use it for months, so here i am 160 pounds and i’ve broken the chair?update 2/18the only thing keeping this chair usable is a ton of gaffer tape holding it together.
