Verilux Brookfield Natural Spectrum Floor Lamp : Love the verilux full spectrum lamp.

My husband, who has macular degeneration, needs very bright light to read by. The only problem he has with it is that the actual light doesn’t rotate to direct the brightness away from his eyes. It moves in every other way (which is good).

I received this box about two months ago, but received a tattered box so it was daunting to even open it. And the light bulb that was provided was shattered. The lamp stand is beautiful but i cannot comment on how it lights up a room.

I love my light for reading and my cats like it to faux sun themselves. I think it is beautiful in a shiny metal, mechanical, clean lines kind of way. The light is bright but not glaring. Too bright for ambiance lighting. I find it durable enough for daily use but it would not stand up well to being man handled or child play.

The lamp is sturdy and will be perfect for my needs. I was not sure what the “aged bronze” color was in the description (i thought it would be just a bit darker than a brushed brass), but was surprised that it is a very dark coppery color. It will be ok, but the color was a bit of a surprise to me. My husband got the lamp put together quickly and i like that the base is very heavy, which balances out the movable top part. ***update:the lamp quit working the 3rd time it was turned on. Not sure what to do to remedy the situation. ***2nd update:my husband went to a store to find a similar bulb to the one that came with the lamp. Evidently, shipping the lamps must damage the bulb somehow. Just relieved that the lamp now works with the new bulb.

  • Works well with a bulb
  • The smooth copy writing got me.
  • I love my light for reading and my cats like it

I purchase this for my mom who has vision problems. She can use this model in more positions than the others that verilux offers. The only problem was that the bulb was delivered broken. It was not packed correctly and those bulbs can be dangerous.

I have a tiny desk, but a big need for a lamp that will focus on my work. Because i wanted something with a bright clear light and i wanted a bronze finish, i looked quite a while. This is a beautiful bronze finish that works with all of the other lighting in my house and it is very sturdy. It easily swings and the light is perfect for my paperwork. I think it was a great value and i didn’t have to go to every store in town to find it, pay sales tax, stuff the box in my mini and cart it home. I think that might actually be the best part.

I like to buy the best and the smooth copy-writing convinced me this reading lamp was worth the ultra-hefty price. The first clue i’d been had should have been that the lamp-head pointed at an odd angle and could not be adjusted. The second was that the friction setting for the the arm to which the lamp-head attached could not hold the lamp up for more than a second or two before it flopped all the way down to knee-height. The final straw was the bulb burned out in less than fifteen hours of use and costs almost $40 to replace. The truth is if the lamp had cost say $50 – a more realistic price – it’d be in the trash now. 50, i couldn’t let myself do that, so i carefully bent the adjustment rod to level out the lamp-head and put a shim in the arm to keep it from flopping down. Now, i think i’ll buy an adapter to allow the use of conventional light bulbs. I’d give it three stars for the high-quality finish and components, but i think the $150 i paid for the lamp proxies for all the praise i care to give, so two stars it is. Update: i put the old bulb back in and it lit up.

The company replaced right away when the first one was broken. The rating reflects the fact that the lamp itself is a little. It was bent within the first couple of days. It is not getting excessive use. I just think for the price perhaps a more sturdy tube could have been used. It is pretty & looks like i hoped.

One of the best lights i have ever owned.

This lamp is sturdy and well-balanced and fits anywhere. It has an antique industrial look that blends with my decor. It easily adjusts to where you need it to be and the light is not harsh. Its just what i needed for reading and needlework.

I am not legally blind, but my sight is not the best. Additionally, i love reading and all the twenty dollar floor lamps i purchased over the years at wal-mart to illumine my literary pursuits have broken down after six months or so. I am a firm believer in the maxim, “you buy cheap, you get cheap. ” so i decided to pay attention to that fine apothegm and purchased this expensive torch (literary license, please). I got it delivered two days later under the prime program and to my dismay, the bulb that ships with the lamp was crushed. Further, i inquired of the few merchants who serve brookfield (the real name of this missouri town where i live, not a pun) and none of them could provide me a replacement. So, until i can find some place that will sell me a light bulb that will work with this lamp, it sits in a corner gathering dust. As an aside, when i ordered this lamp, amazon suggested a two-pack of light bulbs to go with it. Those light bulbs were standard light bulbs and do not fit the brookfield, which requires a special kind of light bulb. I promise to all and sundry that when i get a working bulb to use with this lamp, i will come back and update this review. But until then, it merits a single star for the very reasonable reason that i am unable to use it. Though the “aged bronze” lamp might look good and enjoy decent engineering, the most important property–it’s ability to be used, fails out of the box. Oh by the way, “aged bronze” should have been more truthfully labeled “black,” because that’s what it is, though i daresay that was not amazon’s doing.

Lamp is nice rec’d but bulb was shattered need a replacement bulb with out returning lamp.

I bought 2 of these from amazon about 4 years ago to use in the room where we have our big screen tv. The solid shade style prevented glare on the tv and provided a very good reading/sewing light. The problem with these is the quality of the parts. The arm and tilt of the shade seemed to be made of cheap metal, not easy to adjust, the screws fell out and joints broke after just 1 year of use on one lamp. The one by my chair was kept in a fixed position, but the switch was touchy and felt cheap. Recently either the switch or bulb went out, so i thought about trying a new bulb, but when i unscrewed the diffuser light cover, the plastic part inside the dome cover was disintegrating, the part holding the screws just crumbled, can not be fixed. Don’t know what i will buy to replace it, loved the style and function, but for the price, should have lasted much longer.

Had some good expectations for this lamp but the reality is this lamp really is dismal. The ‘bronze’ finish is very dark. I thought amazon had sent me a black one upon opening. Next, while screwing the pieces together, i noticed slight variations in each one and the seams were visible. It just makes the lamp very poorly made. Finally, while i knew a cfl bulb was included, i didn’t expect it to have a two-prong connector instead of a standard screw mount. How easy finding replacements are, i don’t know. But i do know i hate daylight spectrum 5000k cfls, because they emit a very cold, blue-cast light which i find unappealing. I don’t know how much the 2-prong connector limits choices, but i’m still going to see about returning because this is just not a well-made lamp. ***an update: a search of amazon. Com itself reveals no 2-pin cfl lights, nor were any found locally. To make this lamp useable, i junked the original bulb & glare filter (which didn’t work well to begin with) in favor of an adapter and normal soft light cfl. I have better things to do than repackaging a heavy lamp and staying in line at usps to return the whole thing.

Have been very happy with this lamp until about 5 months after buying it i went to adjust position of light and it broke off not metal but plastic. Then the metal arm that supported light broke as well.

Very poor quality and customer service. After only 3 years the metal arm used to adjust the lamp snapped in two. The product was out of warranty so i contacted the company to see if they had a certified repair shop in my area. I asked if i could buy a replacement part. They do not sell replacement parts for this lamp as they are a small company. The lamp is assembled in pieces so common sense tells you it should be easy to get a part of this lamp. No, i was told all the parts are in china and i could not buy the piece that broke. After reading other reviews it looks like the metal breaking or snapping is a common problem.

Absolute worst craftsmanship. This is one of those “pay a premium” luxury lamps that. Of course, you have to assemble yourself. The 3-part post is too flimsy to support the weight of the head. Where the parts meet, the machined insert threads are easily stripped during assembly, making this a huge waste of money. The manufacturer should be ashamed of offering such garbage for such a price.
